Universal Pictures have scheduled the UK DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of Inglourious Basterds for 7th December 2009. Quentin Tarantino’s latest is set in nazi-occupied France where a group of Jewish soldiers known as “The Basterds” are delivering brutal retribution under the command of Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt).

A full announcement has yet to be made but we’ve got confirmed specs for the single-disc DVD release which offers the following features:
  • 2.40:1 Anamorphic Widescreen
  • English and Hungarian DD5.1 Surround
  • English SDH, Arabic, Danish, Finnish, Hungarian, Icelandic, Norwegian and Swedish subtitles
  • Extended and Alternate Scenes
  • Nation’s Pride – the film within the film can be seen in its entirety
  • Inglourious Basterds Trailers

And here are the Blu-ray Disc specs:
  • 1080P 2.40:1 Widescreen
  • English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio
  • French and Spanish (Latin American) 5.1 DTS Surround
  • English SDH, French and Spanish (Latin American) subtitles
  • Extended and Alternate Scenes
  • Nation’s Pride – the film within the film can be seen in its entirety
  • Featurettes on Nation’s Pride
  • Roundtable discussion with Quentin Tarantino, Brad Pitt and film historian/critic Elvis Mitchell
  • A conversation with veteran actor Rod Taylor
  • Film Poster Gallery Tour with Elvis Mitchel
  • and more!

Considering the audio specs we’re guessing the UK release will be identical to the US release meaning the ‘and more’ extras will consist of:
  • Domestic and International Trailers
  • The Original Inglorious Bastards – a salute to the original 1978 film
  • Rod Taylor on Victoria Bitters, the Australian beer
  • Quentin Tarantino’s Camera Angel
  • Hi Sallys – Gag Reel
  • Inglourious Basterds Poster Gallery

This material has all been passed by the BBFC.

The running time of the extras on Blu-ray is 90mins.

Below is the artwork for the standard DVD release, then the HMV exclusive, the standard Blu-ray release and finally the LE Blu-ray Disc release (which is available at all retailers)...

There's a pretty snazzy (limited edition) blu-ray steel tin coming, if I'm not mistaken.  I can't remember if it's exclusive or not though.

No that doesn't seem to be exclusive as I've seen it on sale at HMV, Amazon UK and play.com.    I have my order in from Amazon UK.

Yep, available at all retailers for £17.99, HMV has a double pure point offer on this if you pre-order from there, if you're in to that sort of thing of course

What is the difference between the standard and the limited blu-ray release actually?

Just the packaging I think. Still no official word on it. It's possible they might have some postcards or a booklet or something, maybe even a digital copy in there, but the actual blu-ray disc content won't be any different.

Really? I know they are only charging a pound extra for the special edition but the RRPs are £24.99 and £29.99 which seems a little much for just a cardboard sleeve (I imagine that's what it is, all hope of a steelbook are fading for me), still worth the punt for just an extra quid from the £16.99 for the standard edition though.

I will say this though, I wish they'd stop putting "The new film by Quentin Tarantino" on the sleeves, while I always thought having "The x film by QT" like on Kill Bill 1 was a little odd/big headed, it works out better than having "The new film..." as that's what they did with Kill Bill 2, and now Basterds, so we'll have 2 films that are his new film as far as the artwork is concerned in our collections, obviously it doesn't take a genius to figure out what they've done, it just aggravates me personally.

Hi,

Just to be sure, the UK blu-ray will have french on it (language + subtitles) ?

I just ask because when you first did the news, the french wasn't mentioned, but now it is ^^

So it's just to be sure it will be well included.

Thank you :)

Short answer is yes, French is on there.

It's a similar scenario to specs for Sony titles, only in this instance we didn't have any Blu-ray specs whatsoever when we first posted the news piece. Now we've seen the sleeve and those are the specs reported.

Just had a look on play.com at the limited edition and these extras are supposed to be exclusive to it

# 4 Stoltz Der Nation poster images (Exclusive to this version)
# 3 Bridget Von Hammersmack Film Poster images (Exclusive to this version)
# Japanese Teaser Poster replica image (Exclusive to this version)
# Exclusive James Goodridge key art print (Exclusive to this version)
# Momma Landa's Old Fashion Austrian Strudel Recipe. (Exclusive to this version)

Not really anything amazing, although the strudel recipe sounds interesting haha.

Those would have to be packaged extras (ie. postcards/artcards, printed material) - I can't imagine they'd master a separate disc just for that kind of extra material.

I'll stick with my £10 Tesco pre-order and hope they honour it.

Just looked over at amazon and their description appears to suggest it will be printed

"Limited Edition Content:
Inglourious Basterds Limited Edition Blu-ray comes in a collectable special finish slipcase and includes:
Inpack 4 Stoltz Der Nation poster images
3 Bridget Von Hammersmack Film Poster images
Replica image of the Japanese Teaser Poster
Exclusive James Goodridge key art print
Momma Landa's Old Fashion Austrian Strudel Recipe. "

Which seems like quite a nice bonus to me, Tesco's current price is over £20 so I'll be sticking with my HMV pre-order.

Hi,

Do we know if the french audio will be Parisian or Canadian ?
If i remember correctly, the UK blu-ray of Public Enemies from Universal had Canadian French audio, so will it be the same ?

Thank you :)

Not a clue. If we get a disc early I'll update. I've also got an order for this myself so will check when it arrives (assuming they don't cancel it as it was a mispice).

bburdett's right about the lack of Steelbook -- it's just a card slipcase with the normal BD + a stack of postcards.

Subtitles: haven't checked all the extras, but the two or three I tried at random were all subtitled.
