Optimum Home Entertainment have announced the UK DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of This is Spinal Tap: Up To 11 Edition on 7th September 2009. Rob Reiner’s directorial debut is this spoof music documentary starring Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer as the three members of the fictional heavy-metal/hard rock band Spinal Tap. Satirizing the wild personal behavior and musical pretensions of hard-rock and heavy-metal bands, This is Spinal Tap presents a second-rate band made up of aging band members who are desperately trying to cling onto what little fame they used to have.

There are three versions being released, a 3 DVD box-set (£19.99 RRP), a Blu-ray (£24.99 RRP) and a limited edition Marshall Amp edition (£69.99 RRP).

The Marshall amp edition includes:
  • Limited Edition customised fully working Marshall amp (going up to 11)
  • Numbered speciall amp packaging
  • 7 original art cards
  • 5 Disc Stonehenge digi pack – including:
    • Discs 1-3 - DVD content as per the 3-Disc DVD box-set (detailed below)

A shame there can't be both commentaries included, of course.

Surely the blu-ray edition will be two discs maximum?

Blu-ray version is a definite buy for me!

Those who love Spinal Tap....make sure you check out 'The Comic Strip Boxset' with Bad News Tour and More Bad News on - for me, they are a little bit funnier than Spinal Tap! (and the CD's are unbelievably funny...)

Three discs looks a tad pointless even on DVD, though the answer may well be that disc 3 is literally just the old release's second disc.

Updated with final specs on this. The Blu-ray has all of the 3-Disc DVD content on 1 disc.
