Battlestar Galactica: The Final Season (R2) in June - Updated

Universal Playback have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of Battlestar Galactica: The Final Season on 1st June 2009 priced at £34.99 RRP. The final stretch of this modern sci-fi series comes to UK DVD with the second half of Season 4 branded ‘The Final Season’.

Though previously announced with two extended episodes and various other content, the final disc specs aren't quite as impressive with the confirmed content listed below...

A four-disc set, episodes are spread across the first three presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen with English DD5.1 Surround audio, English DD2.0 Stereo audio and English SDH subtitles. These discs also have podcast commentaries and deleted scenes on select episodes. The fourth disc contains featurettes and the unrated version of A Disquiet Follows My Soul. All extras (except for the commentaries) are subtitled in English SDH.

Extras include:
  • Deleted Scenes: Sometimes A Great Notion, The Oath, Blood on the Scales, No Exit, Deadlock, Someone to Watch Over Me, Daybreak
  • Podcast Commentary: Sometimes A Great Notion, A Disquiet Follows My Soul, The Oath, Blood On The Scales, No Exit

There is no word on a complete box-set (R2) yet. In fact, the press release just goes on about how fans can pick up the existing Seasons 1-4 box-set to have the complete collection.

That's fair enough considering the 1-4 boxset is only £35 atm in many shops, I'd just like to have an entire boxset, but then again if it were to be the same price but in GBP that'd be £200 for the whole set, and it'd more than likely actually be more I guess.

Any word on a complete boxset?


Play.com have put up a page to pre-order a complete boxset:

Appears to match the one announced for the US. Thinking I might hold off, though, and pick up the blu-ray set from the US; haven't read good things about the region 2 releases of BSG....

might want to hold fire on those complete series boxsets cos there's a feature length episode due at the end of the year and no doubt a new box coming after that
